Newport Beach: Ohana Intensive Outpatient Treatment

Making the decision to enter addiction treatment is likely the most important decision you will make in your life. It takes a great deal of courage to admit that you need help and even more strength and fortitude to choose to do something about your issue. At Akua Mind & Body, we understand the nature of addiction and want to be here for you as you begin your recovery.

Our rehab facilities offer three levels of care: detox, residential, and intensive outpatient. Each level has been carefully developed based on a combination of Eastern medicine and Western science. The resulting treatment philosophy is unlike any you will encounter in the addiction rehab industry. We sincerely believe that the programs we offer will give you the best chance for meaningful, long-term sobriety.

Ohana Intensive Outpatient Program at Newport Beach

After successfully completing our detox or residential programs, some clients can transition into our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) at Newport Beach. Unlike residential treatment, which involves clients living on site 24/7, IOP affords the client more freedom, such as going back to work, attending school, or attending to personal/family responsibilities. During IOP, clients do not live at the treatment center, but instead attend a variety of rigorously scheduled programming Monday through Friday.

The word Ohana means “family,” which is an appropriate label for the outpatient programming we have developed. Not only does it employ highly trained professionals we feel to be at the top of their respective fields, it also utilizes an East meets West philosophy that is unique in and of itself. Each of our clients receives a detailed assessment upon arrival that helps our team create individualized treatment plans based on the specific needs of that person. Unlike some treatment centers that employ a one-size-fits-all mentality, no two treatment plans at Ohana are alike, just like no two members of a family are alike.

Gender Specific Programming

One of the hallmarks of our outpatient treatment program at Newport Beach is the belief that addiction affects men and women differently. As a result, our team has created gender-specific programs that allow men and women to address their individual needs in a comfortable, safe, and trustworthy environment. In addition, we understand that men and women can find distraction in each other and we want our clients to be able to concentrate exclusively on their recoveries.

Many of our clients come to us after having perfected the art of distraction. Instead of allowing themselves to feel emotions, especially those of an uncomfortable nature, they have chosen to distract with a variety of things – drugs, alcohol, food, gambling, sex, etc. When those coping mechanisms are removed, the real recovery can begin.

Mind, Body, and Spirit

Addiction is much more than just a physical disease, although that is definitely an important component. Addressed alone, however, an addict has little chance of achieving long-term sobriety. Akua understands this and has developed a treatment program that addresses the entire person: mind, body, and spirit. Think of recovery as a three-legged stool. If one leg is missing, damaged, or malfunctioning, the stability of the entire stool is in jeopardy. Recovery is the same.

At our Newport Beach outpatient program, clients will address the mind in a variety of ways, including yoga and meditation, psychotherapy and counseling, self-help groups (AA, NA, SAA), life purpose coaching, and trauma therapy. The use of chemicals clouds the mind, but once these substances are removed, the mind can begin to heal.

The physical aspect of recovery involves more than just detoxification, although that is where restoration begins. Addicts typically do not have sounds habits when it comes to physical health. They often come to treatment dehydrated, suffering from vitamin/mineral deficiencies, or having compromised immune systems. Physical fitness and nutrition are lacking. We have developed an integrative program to help the body reverse the effects of prolonged chemical use. By combining the best of Eastern medicine and Western science, we can help each client develop the physical tools necessary for long-term sobriety.

Specifically, clients in the Ohana intensive outpatient program can enjoy the benefits of Eastern medicine, including meditation and energy work (Reiki), combined with the Western practices of physical exercise, psychotherapy and counseling, marriage/family therapy, trauma therapy, and brain-healthy nutrition plans.
