A Residential Treatment Center, sometimes referred to as a rehab, is a healthcare facility providing therapy for substance use disorders, mental illness, or other behavioral problems. Inpatient treatment can be viewed as the “last resort” approach to treating abnormal psychology or psychopathology. Residential Treatment programs may include Detox, Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP), Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) and can be a few hours per day or 24 hour care.
In Residential inpatient care, therapists and counselors often lead therapy groups, take trips or meals with patients, or participate in experiential activities with patients. This allows therapists to see patients in different situations and gain further insights into who they are and what they are struggling with.
After a patient has successfully completed a residential treatment program. They may continue receiving treatment through an Outpatient Program (OP) and/or join our Alumni Program. The goal is to walk alongside a client helping them with accountability and continue to help them overcome addiction and succeed in life.
Anyone who suffers from drug or alcohol addiction knows how powerful and devastating this disease can be. Sometimes a person who abuses substances believes they are managing their addiction when, in fact, they are being managed by their addiction. At Akua we can help a person who abuses drugs at any stage of readiness to achieve and maintain sobriety.
At AKU’s residential treatment centers, we focus on lasting sobriety and mindfulness-based relapse prevention. Our unique programs combine the time-tested Eastern techniques such as yoga and acupuncture with the Western scientific approach to medication management, physical exercise and more.
Each client is assigned a treatment team consisting of a therapist, a physician, a dietitian, a nurse, and ancillary staff who will provide medication, psychotherapy, lead group discussions, and ensure each client is learning how to adopt positive coping skills and conflict resolution skills.
On average, an individual will participate in five to six hours of therapy each day.
