Residential Treatment Program Modalities:

At AKUA’s residential treatment centers, we focus on lasting sobriety and mindfulness-based relapse prevention. Our unique programs combine time-tested Eastern techniques such as yoga and acupuncture with the Western scientific approach to medication management, physical exercise, and more.

Each client is assigned a treatment team consisting of a therapist, a physician, a dietitian, a nurse, and ancillary staff who will provide medication and psychotherapy, lead group discussions, and ensure each client is learning how to adopt positive coping skills and conflict resolution skills.

On average, an individual participates in five to six hours of therapy daily.

AKUA Mind & Body Treatment Program

AKUA Mind and Body is a full-service treatment program that offers a wide range of “east meets west” treatment modalities for many different populations struggling with substance use and mental health disorders. We offer both intensive inpatient programs as well as outpatient treatment. AKUA Mind & Body works diligently with each client and their family to ensure that treatment plan is specifically tailored to their needs, and not just their disorder.

Average Length of Stay

Residential treatment programs typically last 30–90 days, depending on each client’s needs. In some instances, clients will take part in a shorter inpatient treatment program, such as 28-30 days, and then transition into an outpatient care program that lasts much longer. Although some inpatient programs only last 28 days, the most effective inpatient programs last 90 days or longer, per the National Institute on Drug Abuse.

Co-Occurring Disorder Treatment

Co-occurring disorders are substance use disorders that occur in the presence of mental health disorders. Studies show that one in five Americans is diagnosed with a mental health disorder, and within this group, approximately 9 million Americans are also suffering from a substance use disorder. An individual can be struggling with alcohol addiction but may be diagnosed with anxiety or depression at the time of residential treatment admission. Many substance use disorders can trigger mental health disorders, or vice versa. It is important to treat the substance use disorder simultaneously for an individual to fully recover. Residential treatment at AKUA Mind & Body has a specialized treatment track for individuals who have a substance use disorder co-occurring with a mental health disorder.
